Offline-First: Why Your Merchandising App Needs to Work Without Wi-Fi
A field rep walks into a store in a strip mall basement, a big-box warehouse with concrete walls three feet thick, or a rural convenience store forty minutes from the nearest cell tower. She opens her merchandising app to log a planogram compliance check. The spinner turns. And turns. Eventually the app times out, and she is left doing what field reps did fifteen years ago: taking notes on paper, or worse, just remembering what she saw and hoping she gets it right when she is back in range.
This scenario is not an edge case. It is a daily reality for a significant share of retail store visits, and it exposes one of the most overlooked weaknesses in merchandising technology: the assumption that connectivity is a given.

How does the app handle sync conflicts — for example, if a task status was updated both offline and later in the cloud dashboard before sync completes? This is a common failure point that only shows up under real field conditions, not in a demo.
Does image capture and AI-powered compliance detection work the same way offline as online, with analysis simply queued for when connectivity returns, or does the offline mode strip out the features that make the app valuable in the first place?

Merchandising software is sold on the promise of visibility — real-time dashboards, instant alerts, actionable analytics. But all of that visibility is downstream of one basic requirement: the app has to reliably capture what happens in the store, every store, regardless of what the connectivity looks like on the day of the visit.
